Lesson Three: The Problem with 360 Feedback

Better communication is probably listed most often as the number one thing that any given team, group, task force, department, division or organization needs to improve.  We need better communication.

360 degree feedback is an anonymous way to give feedback to someone.  Forms are distributed and privacy protected as the results are tabulated and presented to the victim, excuse me, client. If improved communication is the goal, wouldn’t real time communication be a better solution.

It is my opinion that 360 is a symtom of a communication problem more than it is a solution. We should be working to achieve a level of communication that flows freely in real time.  If people are at risk for clearly stating their opinion then solve that problem, don’t cover it up with 360.
